Projects from NBCUniversal

Over the span of 3 years, I was a part of many projects across NBCUniversal's design team (both as a contributor, and lead designer), specifically on their CNBC platform.

Projects

01. Redesigning iOS & Android

I co-led the redesign of CNBC’s iOS and iPadOS apps, working across key experiences like News, Markets, Watchlist, Live TV, Video, and Podcasts. Designing for CNBC meant building for a finance-heavy, data-driven audience—traders, professionals, and business leaders who rely on real-time market data and seamless access to insights. Later, I led the Android redesign, rethinking these same experiences with Material Design while ensuring parity across platforms.

Role: Designer & Lead Designer
Timeline: September 2017 - December 2019

Impact

  • iOS installs grew by 40% YoY, iPad OS grew by 64%  and Android installs grew by 36%, all after the redesigns.
  • Average session times on iOS increased by 32%, as users engaged more deeply with Markets, News, and Live TV.

02. CNBC for WatchOS

CNBC for WatchOS was a partnership project with Apple as a way to promote CNBC products on the App Store. This was a 3-month initiative to introduce key experiences and journeys such as CNBC's News, Markets, Watchlist, and Podcast experiences to WatchOS.

Role: Lead Designer
Timeline: January 2018 - June 2019

Impact

  • Launched CNBC's first major WatchOS app in partnership with Apple.
  • Over 110K installs in the first year.
  • 77% of users using CNBC for iOS have signed in, meaning their using the app's retention features such as the Watchlist to track stocks that they care about.

03. Market Data for VUI

Market Data for VUI was a robust feature on the voice products that allows users to ask Alexa for financial data on individual companies.

Users can ask for basic information ranging from "What’s Apple’s stock price?" to more granular data such as "Tell me Apple’s 30-Day Average Volume". I lead the design and research phases of this project, creating a conversational system that supports several different user requests, all based on CNBC's unique brand voice.

Role: Lead Designer
Timeline: June 2019 - August 2019

Impact

  • CNBC Skill on Alexa had 11,219 user intents in September, i.e "Hey Alexa, what's NVIDIA's stock price?"
  • Monthly UV's +125% YoY, driven by Amazon Alexa

04. CNBC Pro Purchase

We set out to simplify CNBC PRO’s purchase flow and better communicate its value. This work was part of a larger strategy to redefine the PRO subscription by rethinking every step of the journey—pre-purchase, purchase, and post-purchase.

Role: Lead Designer
Timeline: January 2019 - March 2019

Impact

  • 24% increase in free trials aggregated across all the iOS paywall variants.
  • 27% increase in revenue for PRO generated by the Apple Pay integration.
  • Conversion from trial-to-paid rose by 16%, driven by clearer subscription tiers and pricing transparency.
  • 39% increase in PRO content consumption from free trials.

05. Concepts for iOS Next

CNBC Next was an initiative to reimagine key experiences across the CNBC apps—centered on making market data and content more personal, actionable, and user-focused.
I led two projects under this initiative

  • Markets Redesign: A two-week sprint rethinking the Markets tab, where we explored user archetypes and built a modular system for testing and evolving new market data experiences.
  • Personalized News: Designed a new tab that surfaced content tailored to user behaviors and interests, introducing a more curated and relevant way to consume CNBC news.

Role: Designer & Lead Designer
Timeline: September 2020 - December 2020

Impact

  • Positioned us to successfully redesign the News and Markets experience across iOS and Android.
  • Deepened our understanding of our users and their affinity towards concepts such as personalization, technical market data, etc.

05. CNBC for TvOS

I led a three-week design initiative testing three Apple TV app concepts. The goal was to shape the future vision and roadmap for CNBC’s OTT products (Apple TV, Roku, FireTV, etc.), while learning more about TV users—their behaviors, goals, and expectations—to guide innovation across platforms. Three prototypes were created, tested with 8 in-person modderated sessions.

Role: Lead Designer
Timeline: July 2020 - October 2020

    Impact

From the sessions, our team gained a much deeper  understanding of our OTT users, and an understanding of their frustrations, goals, and JTBD's.
